Spousal Benefits Military - There are no enrollment fees for this TRICARE option but you are required to pay premiums for Medicare Part B. Those fees are established based on the applicant's income. It's something your spouse would certainly want for you. But if you do remarry, you will lose your Fry eligibility entirely. TRICARE Select is offered to the immediate families (spouses, children) of active duty service members, military retirees and family, spouses and children of qualifying Guard/Reserve members, survivors, and several others.

You can also download the calculator as an easy-to-use app for iOS or Android. To receive any military benefits, military family members must be registered in the military's personnel system, the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS), and receive a military ID card.
Who Is Tricare Select Good For?

TRICARE is the military health insurance plan for service members and their families. TRICARE Select Overseas is a plan offered to spouses and dependents. Select Overseas offers “comprehensive coverage in all overseas areas” according to the TRICARE official site. You must enroll in TRICARE Select Overseas, and you are required to be registered in DEERS (and your record must show you as eligible to enroll in TRICARE) before you do so.
The TRICARE official site advises that you may need "pre-authorization from your regional contractor for some services". TRICARE Select does not require you to carry a TRICARE insurance card. You use your military-issued ID as proof of your insurance coverage.
The military thinks about it, too, which is why there are special military spouse benefits after death or disability, including for educational programs. It might seem like it's impossible to pick up and continue your life after such a devastating tragedy.
First Make Sure You Can Access Your Benefits
But the Department of Veterans Affairs offers you the tools to persevere if you need them. Branch-based spousal education benefits are usually actually offered by independent non-profit organizations. Each branch has their own system, setup, and funding for these programs.
That means you have different possible benefits, different qualifications, and different ways in which to apply. You'll have to consult each organization for details. And Fry Scholars have the option of participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program, in which participating schools and the VA cooperate to offer higher tuition reimbursement to cover costs at private universities or for out-of-state tuition.
DEA benefits are a flat-rate payment that comes to you monthly, to be applied to college or certificate training programs. Rates are adjusted each year; for 2022, the rate for full-time attendance was $1,298 per month.

In some cases, your service member may be stationed somewhere you cannot go -- called a "hardship duty assignment." If that happens, you may be able to receive BAH based on wherever you choose to live instead of where he is stationed.
DEA, as it's also known, is laid out in Chapter 35 of Title 38 of the US Code, passed at the same time as Chapter 33 (the Post-9/11 GI Bill®). DEA makes a flat monthly payment to survivors to help cover the costs of undergraduate or graduate degree programs, or other career training or counseling programs.
Death and divorce are not the things to focus on as a military spouse, though.

Military Education Benefits For Spouses Start During Active Duty Service
Enjoy those benefits with gratitude and in honor of what they do for us all. This program is offered worldwide; the TRICARE official site says you may use "any provider you want" but warns that higher costs may be possible when you "get care from Veteran's Administration providers or providers who opt-out of Medicare because they're not allowed to bill Medicare".
Most bases worldwide are home to a military commissary operated by a government organization called the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA). Commissaries can often help military families save money on grocery items, since stores are required by law to sell items at cost.

But keep an eye on the options as Space Force establishes its own traditions and support systems over time. You don't need a referral to an overseas provider, and you can schedule an appointment with "any" overseas care provider as long as they are listed in the authorized directory.
What Is Tricare Select Overseas?
Pre-authorization may be required for some care or services. You do not need a TRICARE card, your military-issued ID card acts as your proof of insurance.

Every military service member receives at least a base pay.
Most also receive a variety of allowances, special pays and bonuses depending on things like deployment, paygrade and military job. For most married service members, those allowances include Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) and Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH).
Branch-Based Military Spouse Education Benefits
It’s a possibility that has decreased dramatically during modern wars, with superb force protection postures and the best field medical care in the world. There are two kinds of Tricare that active-duty families, medically retired families and families of activated guardsmen and reservists can use: Tricare Select (previously known as Tricare Standard) and Tricare Prime.
You can learn about the differences between them here. As of August 2022, spouses of active duty service members are eligible for Yellow Ribbon Program benefits transfers too. For spouses with their sights set on a more expensive private university degree or just a state school in another part of the country where they don't qualify for the residential benefits, the Yellow Ribbon Program helps cover those additional costs.
Dependent children have qualified for Yellow Ribbon Program benefits transfers for years, and now military spouses can take advantage of them too. For all GI Bill® military education benefits, including the Yellow Ribbon Program, the process of transferring benefits has to be initiated while the service member is still on active duty.
Additionally, it can only happen if they have completed at least six years of service and agree to serve for four additional years on top of their current commitment. The only exception to these transferability rules is if the eligible service member is killed or seriously injured in the course of duty.
Spouses Are Eligible For Survivors And Dependents Educational Assistance Dea Program Benefits
Most bases are also home to a department store called an exchange, as well as gas stations, liquor stores and fast food. On Army and Air Force bases, all of those places are run by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES).
On Marine Corps bases, they are run by the Marine Corps Exchange (MEX), and on Navy bases, they are run by the Navy Exchange (NEX). All of those companies operate independently of the military but use a percentage of their revenue to fund other military family programs.
Most items purchased in the exchanges are tax exempt, making those stores great places to buy big-ticket items like electronics and furniture. The .gov means it's official. Federal government websites often end in .gov or .mil.
Before sharing sensitive information, make sure you're on a federal government site. But don’t overlook the efforts that each individual branch makes to support military spousal education! Like the college funds they make available to their members, each branch has special educational options devoted to military spouses as well.
